What's the difference between your flat clinch and your standard parallel clinch staplers?
Most Novus staplers provide a standard parallel clinch to fasten your documents. This is where the ends of the staple legs curl up and clinch your documents. Novus Flat Clinch staplers bend and press flat both staple legs after they have gone through your documents. This provides up to 30% more storage room by preventing the characteristic staple bulge from filed documents.
What does the term bypass mean?
The Bypass System in a Novus Stapler allows you to use longer staplers when stapling a thinner stack of paper. This prevents you from having to change your staples when stapling document packets of various thickness. If a bypass system is not present on a stapler and a longer staple is used to clinch a short stack of documents, the legs of the staple will come up through the bottom document and pierce through the front of the stack.
What's the difference between Novus staples and a generic brand?
Novus Premium Staples are manufactured using quality galvanized wire that is of thicker gauge steel than standard staples. Each staple is precision formed and glued to prevent binding in the machine. Using Novus Premium Staples will not only ensure trouble free operation, but it will also protect your warranty. Generic office staples use thinner gauge wire and inconsistent gluing methods. Each of which can contribute to staple jam.
What do the two sets of numbers mean on your staples?
The first number represents the thickness or gauge of the staple wire (the smaller the number, the thicker the wire). "24" and "23" classify these staples as 24 gauge and 23 gauge Standard office staples are typically 26 gauge and not as durable.
The second set of numbers represent the length (in millimeters) of the staple legs. To help determine the length of staple that is needed for your application, add the number of sheets being stapled (10 sheets of standard paper is approximately 1mm) and add 3mm for clinching. If the Novus stapler you are using offers a Bypass System, longer staples can be used when stapling smaller stacks of paper.

What length staple should I purchase for normal office functions?
Novus 24/6 Super staples should be the perfect length for standard office stapling (2 to 30 sheets). For the ability to 30+ sheets of paper, I would recommend getting a box of Novus 24/8 Super as well. The added length of the 8mm staple will ensure a secure clinch.

What are the different stapling modes and why do I use them?
Standard (Parallel) Clinch – The ends of the staple legs curl up and clinch your documents. Used when stapling documents.
Flat Clinch – The ends of the staple legs are bent and pressed flat after clinching your documents. Used when filing large amounts of stapled documents and desiring more storage space.
Temporary Pinning – The staple pierces the document and the staple legs are bent backward for easy removing. Temporary pinning is used when the stapled documents will be added to or rearranged in the future. No stapler remover needed!
Tacking – Similar to using a thumb tack, the document(s) are stapled to a flat surface.

My Novus stapler jams easily. Why?
Are you using Novus Premium Staples? If so then contact Dahle's Warranty Department at (800) 995-1379. If you are using a generic office staple then that could be your issue. These staples use thinner gauge wire and inconsistent gluing methods. Each of which contribute to jamming.
